What’s Going on in the Philadelphia Startup Community

Business Development and Entrepreneurship Center – Accounting Fundamentals
When: Mon Dec 12, 8:30am

This course is 15 hours spread over 2 days. For both days, we will meet from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with an hour-long break. The dates are Monday, December 12, and Tuesday, December 13.

 

This workshop covers industry-accepted standards for responsible financial management, reporting, and monitoring for nonprofit agencies. Participants will learn what financial statements should be generated and how often, and what is required for a clean audit.

Lunch for Hungry Minds: Engineering challenges on path to market

The aim of the presentation is to describe the challenges and ways of overcoming them on the long road from product concept to the final commercial product. The story of the Infrascanner, a handheld brain hematoma detection system, and its way from bench to bedside will be presented.

 

IMPACT 2011 a signature event of the Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies (PACT), will be held on November 29 & 30 at the Ritz-Carlton Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Convention Center and the Crystal Tea Room.

Online grant opportunities are changing the way foundations receive and evaluate grant proposals. Web-based grant systems streamline the application process, make it easier for funders to collect necessary information, and improve communication between nonprofits and foundations.

 

The event will begin with a panel of five speakers who will each present two trends in specific technologies. A short debate on the technologies presented will follow and the judges and audiences will vote on the top trend.

What’s Going on in the Philadelphia Startup Community

SC — Innovation Town Hall

A discussion on how federally-funded research and development, technology-based economic development, job-centric economic theory, and political leadership can be harnessed together, within Greater Philadelphia’s unique innovation ecosystem, to incentivize the expansion of manufacturing and job creation both regionally and nationally.

 

The NJTC Innovation Conference will highlight and promote innovations in technologies such as solar, smart grids, tele-health, mobile applications, tele-presence, and wireless spectrum. The program will feature a keynote speaker, a panel discussing the innovative technologies listed above and a panel of public policy experts discussing the government perspective on these technologies. The Conference will conclude with exhibits from innovative entrepreneurs, followed by a tour of GNOC.

 

Indy Hall Show and Tell is just what it sounds like, a show and tell of what’s going on at one of Philadelphia’s co-working facilities.

 

BarCampPhilly is an ‘Unconference’ – a day of programming collaboratively built by the people, for the people. The schedule board is cultivated the morning of the event, and is open to all attendees for contributions. The science cafe movement began in Leeds, England in 1998 when a local pub decided to foment a new kind of barroom brawl — scientific debate. The idea took off as a unique way to advance public understanding of science.

 

Do you have questions about fundraising for your company? Are you confused about the content for investor presentations? Are you trying to decide if it’s the right time to seek funding? Are you curious about how investors look at valuation? Would you like to make connections to other C-level executives and local investors?

This is a weekly open house for Hive 76, where people drop by to work on software or hardware and eat pizza. We also have our weekly scrum (planning) meetings at 7 PM on Wednesday’s, during our open hours.

Startup Weekends are weekend-long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if startup ideas are viable. On average, half of Startup Weekend’s attendees have technical backgrounds, the other half have business backgrounds. Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees build on Saturday and demo Sunday night.
