Dear Shanghai StartupDigest Readers,

Are you ready to work your tails off for a weekend and make your startup dream come true? This week we have two exciting events coming up: ChinaStarts’ Hackathon and Startup Weekend Shanghai. Participants of both events will spend 72 hours to found a team and create their product. In addition, Friday is also the opening ceremony of Global Entrepreneurship Week China. Xue Manzi, a well-known angel investor, will join the ceremony and give a speech to the entrepreneurs in Shanghai.

On the side note, the People Squared Year One Anniversary is on Nov 27th. We will host the event with LBS Vision and Tech2IPO to bring a fun day to the Shanghai startup community. More details will be announce in the up-coming weeks. Also, thanks to Super Chocolateur, we had some great shots of the UX Day event. ChinaStars Hackathon

Where: Shanghai JiaoTong University.

30 teams, 10 mentors, 1 platform support, very little sleep with unprecedented passion for creating new products. Students at ChinaStars created 30 demos for social and mobile products based on existing SNS.

 

PM-China Product Manager Conference

When: 11/17/2011-11/18/2011

Where: No. 1888, Pu Ming Road, Pudong New Area, Shanghai

 

PM-China will hold China’s 1st Product Manager Conference on 17th-18th Nov, 2011 in Shanghai. We have invited lots of domestic and international experts in product managing and design to share their expertise on our conference. The purpose of this conference is for the experts to share the latest developments and their great experiences within their fields.

 

Startup Weekend Shanghai

When: 11/18/2011-11/20/2011

Where: Block#7 KIC,Songhu Road,Yangpu, Shanghai

 

As Startup Weekend is one of the very important events of GEW, the event will share a global spotlight. What’s more, the event will join a Global Startup Battle with the other cities which will hold the SW event at the same weekend. After the event, the winners of each event will compete online with each other to make a global winner in the end!

What’s Going on in the Michigan Startup Community

7th Annual MichBio Expo & Conference
When: Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011 8AM
Where: DeVos Place Conference Center, 303 Monroe Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI (Map)

This is an unusual event to post in this list as it’s on the west side of the state, but it’s MichBio’s 7th Annual Expo & Conference. The largest gathering of biosciences professionals in the state attracting approximately 500 participants and more than 50 exhibitors last year. One of the events on the roster of activities will be where Michigan’s new and emerging biosciences companies will present before an audience of venture capitalists, angel investors and institutional investors. D-NewTech Meetup
When: Wednesday, November 2, 2011 6:00PM
Where: Detroit TechTown 440 Burroughs St. Detroit, MI (Map)

Five presenters/companies this month take the stage for ten minutes each, five minutes to demo and five minutes to answer questions, followed by open announcements and community networking. Good morning Toronto startups and Entrepreneurs!

This past week was great for Canadian startups with Tungle.me being acquired by RIM and BMC acquiring Montreal’s Coradiant, co-founded by Year One Labs partner, Alistair Croll.  Congrats!

This week some of our notable events include the monthly Mobile Monday series hosted at MaRS, and LeanCoffee Episode 32 on May 3 & 5 respectively.  As for next week, watch out for Ultra Light Startups Episode 3 with the topic – Sales for Startups and Google I/O in Waterloo
