Stop Being Lazy, Start Filtering (with Events)

6/07/2010

One of the most popular events in StartupDigest this week so far is Thursday’s Social Media Marketing 2010 event in San Francisco. That got us thinking, what are the very best upcoming social media events for startups?

This is simple question that is surprisingly difficult to answer. Google “Social Media Events” and the top 2 results are never-ending, eye-watering lists of every single social media conference happening all over the world for the next 6 months.

We don’t mean to specifically pick on you, Social Media Club and Mashable, but having absolutely no basic filtering or personal curation is lazy, and so is featuring only the events you’re sponsoring or putting on yourself.

lazy cat disgust

To save you time and headaches, here are the top 3 upcoming social media events (in our opinion) for startups building businesses either on top of social media (like AdParlor or Wildfire) or through it:

OMMA Metrics and Measurement OMMA Metrics and Measurement – July 22, San Francisco
This conference will help you understand what’s most important to measure on social media and how to measure it. All good strategies are driven by good data, so you should start collecting it here.

More info: http://bit.ly/a5xepZ

Social Ad Summit

Social Ad Summit – October 7, New York City
This conference will focus on best practices for advertising across social media, especially on maximizing both reach and conversions as well as leveraging the maturing social gaming industry.

More Info: http://bit.ly/dlDHNz

SocialTech 2010

SocialTech 2010 – October 26, San Jose
This conference will focus on best practices specifically for B2B technology companies to find and energize new customers through social media. Since the vast majority of social media events focus solely on B2C companies and you’ll have the chance to learn from Guy Kawasaki, Robert Scoble, and Jeremiah Owyang, there’s a lot of value here.

More info: http://bit.ly/7LGsov

In addition to these larger events, don’t forget that there are many smaller, regular meetups for entrepreneurs looking to get the most out of social media in almost every major city around the world. These meetups are great ways to build relationships with the people around you who are working in your space.

To save time and stay updated on these events in your city once a week through an email newsletter, sign up for StartupDigest here.
