Sorry for the missed digests, I have just arrived home to San Diego from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where I had the fortune to speak to entrepreneurs at the KLVC Symposium. What’s Going on in the DC Startup Community

The mission of AVF is to discover and develop strong companies and to connect them with human resources, both financial and experiential, who will assist the companies in becoming ultimately more successful in the attraction of capital and positive exits. The Angel Forum is a new and efficient, as well as effective, way of looking at and building early stage companies.

 

Happy to announce that our next meetup will be on October 17th, and that we’ll be joining forces for this one with the Cassandra DC group. We’ve got two great Cassandra-focused sessions lined up.

 

If you’re a builder of web things or a creative designer, writer, or UXer who wants to get out of the house (or office) a bit, then come join us. We’ll be the group of people nerding out over laptops in various coffee shops and art spaces around Arlington.

 

This meetup will be like none other in our three year history. We are going to turn our attention away from the apps, platforms and solutions we are building to focus on something more important; your vision. This will be our way to honor the passing of a true visionary.

 

16 artists, technologists, entrepreneurs, and philosophers will answer this challenge at Ignite DC #8. The event will be held at the techno-modern, funky, plush nightclub Town Danceboutique. It’s a block from the 930 club and close to the U St metro.

 

We’re thrilled to welcome Hiten Shah of KISSmetrics and Steph Hay of FastCustomer to our October meetup, which also will include a lean startup hack, teaser for the Lean Startup Machine, and a Q&A session with an attorney from Cooley LLP.

 

This is a Satellite Venue in Baltimore for those who cannot drive to our main event in DC.

 

Startup Weekend EDU is an intense 54-hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile EDU application which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets – primarily educators, software developers,
graphics designers and business people – to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.

My co-curator Santiago is putting together a “Hackspedition” (think hacking + an expedition) with David Weekly to meet other hackers and founders in Latin America. The expedition will be a hiking trip to the Palenque Mayan Ruins and from November 2-6. This an awesome excuse to join other investors and founders from Silicon Valley to meet with the local hacker community in Mexico.
