Hacker News London Meetup

As yet another year draws to a close, we bring you the final HNLondon meetup of 2011. We felt it would only be appropriate to end the year on a high and give you the extraordinary headline speaker, Shed Simove, who will entertain and inspire you. As if that was not enough, the evening will also feature our customary mountain of beer and pizza, as well as great tech talks from the community members.

Stephen Grey is an author and journalist, best known for exposing the CIA rendition flights; he is about to join Reuters as a roving special correspondent based in London. A former foreign correspondent and Insight Editor with the Sunday Times. He will explain how he used databases and social networking software to expose the CIA’s network of planes and front companies and used these to expose how prisoners were being rendered to countries where they faced torture.

Patrick Vlaskovits (@pv), co-author of The Entrepreneurs’ Guide To Customer Development (custdev.com) will be swinging by London for an evening, so you’ll get a chance to ask your questions and get in-depth with one of the world’s most knowledgeable Customer Development people.

We will be doing a special MiniBar, which will start in the morning with workshops on how to raise investment. We are doing this with Mother and Gateway2Investment (g2i) as partners. Up to 20 companies can participate in the day event and the 5 best ones will present at MiniBar in the evening.
Startup Weekend EDU is an intense 54-hour event which focuses on building a web or mobile application with an education focus which could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend. The weekend brings together people with different skillsets – primarily software developers, educators, graphic designers and business people — to build applications and develop a commercial case around them.
