Mid-Cities Tech Startup Coffee
When: Mon Dec 12 7pm-9pm

Opportunity for startup folks living in the Mid-Cities area to get together and just hang out. Our goal is to build a strong local community of startup-minded people through this regular meetup. This is a very laid back and informal event. Topics of discussion can include technology, business models, funding, marketing and anything else related to startup life!

 

It’s not sexy, but you know what, your tax strategies dramatically impact your business. What good is your profit if you allocate it incorrectly, or are taxed higher than necessary? At this luncheon, participants will hear about some key strategies for small technology-based businesses to use to put themselves in the best position possible.

 

Alook back at the year in PHP and BYOT (bring your own topic) — what has happened with the language and the entire ecosystem surrounding it. If there’s a burning question you’ve been wanting to know about PHP or even just a general web-related kind of question, bring it along and we’ll have some time to talk.

The big event this week is TEDxSMU. This event’s focus is on disruption. You can view the talks on site at SMU (for a fee), or you can save some cash (equity?) and use it for drinks and watch at one of the free viewing parties, and don’t miss the after, afterparty at Tech Church. Dallas iPhone – Mobile User Experience Design, In Practice

Bring a focus to educational innovation in Dallas. How often do you get to brainstorm with a group of smart, random individuals? If you can’t remember the last time you did, bring your ideas and an open mind to the brainstorming event of the season.

Representatives of educational organizations, both for-profit and non-profit, will bring their challenges to a group of un-like-minded individuals who are filled with good ideas and a desire to help. After short presentations by three organizations, interested participants will join members of the SMU Innovation Gym to ideate solutions to the challenge of their choice in one of Dallas’ most unique settings. This is a pitch-free stage so you won’t have to worry about being solicited for a donation or finding a monetary solution to a problem.

If you’re in the tech space, you’re probably great at creating and engineering. Maybe not so much on the marketing. Here’s a way to learn more, Neil Lemons is a great guy full of insight. He will be teaching some key ways to create content easily and systematically, even if you don’t consider yourself a writer, using eight content creation and marketing strategies. These were proven using a city-based blog, which is now a full fledged publication. In this session, you’ll learn how one hyper local event website grew from one contributor to 25 and from zero traffic to 23,000 visitors a month, and is now syndicated by sites like Pegasus News.
