Dear Shanghai StartupDigest Readers,

A late happy Thanksgiving greeting for all of you. : ) We had a very joyful Thanksgiving dinner at Jeremy’s place with the members from Startup Weekend Shanghai. It has been a while since the last time I saw a real turkey… yummy!

The past a few weeks have been quite busy for the tech and startup community, and it is just not ready to quiet down! There will be loads of event happening in Shanghai next week. The global Startup Weekend Battle is also voting for a champion; go here to vote for your winner of the global Startup Weekend family.

For me, my focus is on the cause of the People Squared’s One Year Anniversary, which will happen on December 4th. The celebration will be all about startups, announcements, demo presentations, and sharing. Hopefully, I will also meet some of you at the event.

26 entrepreneurs presented in Yang Pu KIC this weekend for both 36kr and Startup Weekend Shanghai event! Congratulations to “Yes or No” who got the first prize and is going to join the other 8 cities in the Global Startup Battles!

I had the opportunity to meet with Peter Vesterbacka from Rovio (Angry Birds) and Antti Ylimutka from Startup Sauna on the ChinaStars Hackathon. I was fascinated by the amazing things that are taking place among European Startup and Open Source Communities. Compared to them, startup communities in Shanghai still have a long way to get there, but we are all looking forward to grow together.

Are you ready to work your tails off for a weekend and make your startup dream come true? This week we have two exciting events coming up: ChinaStarts’ Hackathon and Startup Weekend Shanghai. Participants of both events will spend 72 hours to found a team and create their product. In addition, Friday is also the opening ceremony of Global Entrepreneurship Week China. Xue Manzi, a well-known angel investor, will join the ceremony and give a speech to the entrepreneurs in Shanghai.

On the side note, the People Squared Year One Anniversary is on Nov 27th. We will host the event with LBS Vision and Tech2IPO to bring a fun day to the Shanghai startup community. More details will be announce in the up-coming weeks. Also, thanks to Super Chocolateur, we had some great shots of the UX Day event. Good morning Dutch Startups, Welcome to the first of many StartupDigests. When I was traveling to San Francisco in September, StartupDigest was the way I found out about the best events that were taking place, helping me meets lots of new and interesting entrepreneurs and startups. That is why I wanted to curate StartupDigest in the Netherlands so that I can keep you up to date with the best startup events in de “randstad.” What better way to send out the first StartupDigest than during the global week of entrepreneurship. There’s a bunch of interesting events that take place this week. You can find the entire list here, but I’ve tried to shortlist the most interesting events for you in this email.In the future I will be sending out bi-weekly updates with all the greatest startup events for you to attend. I’m looking forward to getting your feedback, and if you have any ideas about new events to cover, send me an email.

Meet the Dragons

The biggest and most spectacular event of the Global Week of Entrepreneurship. Seven selected European startups will be given the opportunity to present their business plan to European Dragons in an effort to secure an investment up to €1,000,000.

 

Appsterdam: Wednesday Lunchtime Lecture

Samantha Hosea will speak about Knowing who your user is and what he wants. Weekly Wednesday Lunchtime Lectures is an initiative to allow people in Appsterdam to talk about technology and share knowledge, allowing speakers to get some training as well. Lectures have broad topics, from technical to marketing, or whatever is related to apps.

 

Breaking out Congres

This workshop, focused on air quality data, will bring together a group of people with different skillsets — some technical, some creative, some with domain expertise — who will move from concept to working plan by the end of the session

In just over one week, the first edition of the renowed Droidcon conference will be organised in Amsterdam. Droidcon is Europe’s largest Android developer gathering featuring many great speakers who present their vision on the industry.

During the past week we had TechCrunch Disrupt Beijing. 15 companies launched their new products for the very first time in our Startup Battlefield. Among them, Anquanbao, 8 Securities, Moglue, OrderWithMe, TouchPal Contacts and UnitedStyles made to the finalists.

The winner was OrderWithMe from ChinaAccelerator. OrderWithMe is a system that helps western small businesses to purchase Chinese-made goods in bulk by simplifying what used to be a complicated process. Congratulations to OrderWithMe and ChinaAccelerator for this excellent achievement!
