Ruby Brigade – Event driven programming with event machine

This month they’ll look at creating database connections from Plain Ol’ Ruby and then event-driven programming with EventMachine. What is event-driven programming, and how do you write event driven apps?

SparkEd

Bring a focus to educational innovation in Dallas. How often do you get to brainstorm with a group of smart, random individuals? If you can’t remember the last time you did, bring your ideas and an open mind to the brainstorming event of the season.

Representatives of educational organizations, both for-profit and non-profit, will bring their challenges to a group of un-like-minded individuals who are filled with good ideas and a desire to help. After short presentations by three organizations, interested participants will join members of the SMU Innovation Gym to ideate solutions to the challenge of their choice in one of Dallas’ most unique settings. This is a pitch-free stage so you won’t have to worry about being solicited for a donation or finding a monetary solution to a problem.

Startup Happy Hour 2.0 / Alex’s Birthday

AT&T Mobile App Hackathon

This hackathon will introduce you the the latest cutting edge tools to deploy your own app with a website backend, fully hosted in the cloud. Alternatively, you can come pitch your idea and scout for developer talent, who can help you build your app. Short lightning talks in the morning so you can learn something new and dev support from Apigee, AT&T, Sencha and Alcatel Lucent all day.

GiveCamp is a weekend-long event where software developers, designers, and database administrators donate their time to create custom software for non-profit organizations. Last week’s events were about socializing, and this week’s are all about learning. 

On Tuesday, learn how to use Ruby as a competitive advantage in developer contests (eg. Startup Weekend), then head over to the source for mobile groups – DalMob. Lastly, on Thursday a guest speaker from “the valley” will give insights on the seven steps necessary for a successful startup.
