Last week’s events were about socializing, and this week’s are all about learning.

On Tuesday, learn how to use Ruby as a competitive advantage in developer contests (eg. Startup Weekend), then head over to the source for mobile groups – DalMob. Lastly, on Thursday a guest speaker from “the valley” will give insights on the seven steps necessary for a successful startup.

Last week was great for events. At the gaming TeXchange, I learned that Texas is a huge presence in the video game development market, with Dallas playing a predominant role in games/mobile gaming. Mobile games are definitely heating up here in Dallas. Maybe that tidbit will help you.

This week, the guys that make mobile happen meet. DalMob is a great group of mobile developers doing amazing things. Also, the DFW Lean group meets – a group passionate about starting up according to the “lean methodology” popularized in the valley, of which I’m a huge fan.

Have a great week, and enjoy! And remember, if you have events that we’re not covering, drop us a line.

What’s Going on in the Dallas Startup Community

DalMob Conclave

When: Tuesday, May 3, 6:00 PM
Where: Tech Church, 2700 Fairmount, Dallas, TX 75201
One thing I’ve learned, designing for mobile isn’t as easy as it seems. At this conclave, learn about high-level mobile design considerations that will get you and your App going in the right direction. Designing for mobile is different than designing for web. Designing for iPhone is different than designing for iPad. Designing for iPad is different than designing for Xoom. So where do you start?

When: Wednesday, May 4, 6:30 PM
Where: Cohabitat, 2517 Thomas St, Dallas, TX

Into lean startups? Join the group dedicated to it. May’s meetup will be a networking event. Bring your ideas for the group and enjoy free beer and pizza.
