Meredith will break down what a brand really is, why it is important, and how it applies to you and your startup. Chicago Ruby Downtown: High Availability at Braintree

Uptime is important for any application, but it’s absolutely critical for a payment gateway. Braintree’s goal is zero downtime for their merchants. They tackle high availability in some unique ways using ruby as one of their main tools.

Funding Feeding Frenzy creator David Culver is hosting an open house this Wednesday at VentureSHOT, the recently opened High Energy Entrepreneur Center & Incubator at 744 North Wells Street in Chicago. They’ve got some great things happening there, including Super-Ultra Collaborative Entrepreneurial Group meetings, Angel Investor and VC meet and greet sessions, coaching for presentations, and some great flex space/private offices.

 

Chicago Product Management Association: Three Tips to Improve Effectiveness as a Product Manager

Code Academy Application Deadline

Where: Code Academy, Chicago

Code Academy launched their 12 week program for web development in Ruby on Rails this fall. I’ve spent some time over there myself, along with folks like 37 Signals David Heinemeier Hansson and Groupon’s Dave Hoover, and the energy and enthusiasm is phenomenal. Code academy is accepting applications now through December 10th for two 12-week programs that start in January

Mongo Seattle 2011

Mongo Seattle is an annual one-day conference in Seattle dedicated to the open source, non-relational database MongoDB. MongoDB is used by a number of large-scale corporations including Craigslist, Shutterfly and foursquare, and this conference is a great primer for new adopters and experts.

 

TEDxWomen

TEDxWomen is a TEDx event that focuses on women and women’s issues. The event will be simulcast at EMP’s JBL Theater and has a speaker lineup including Barbara Walters, Mehmet Oz, Tan Le, and more.

 

Northwest Startup DEMO

MIT Enterprise Forum’s DEMO events are great events where startups can show off their work in front of a panel of judges.
