Montreal StartupDigest – May 30, 2011

30/05/2011

Below is an archived version of the Montreal StartupDigest Events List – a weekly curated listing of the best tech startup events in Montreal. If you would like to get next week’s digest on Monday, sign up here.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Startup Drinks Montreal last week was a lot of fun as we saw around 100 people through the door. The calls for a larger venue have been heard! We gleaned these elusive insights by trialling Qidiq so attendees could speak their minds, in real time. Let me know if you have a venue in mind: it must be easy to reach by public transport, licensed and bigger than what we’ve got now.

This week Devteach is going to take a deep dive into the business of mobile development over 4 days, “hacks” meet “hackers,” and the week is topped off by a fundraiser for Compagnie F.

Montreal StartupDigest is curated by:
Robin Ahn – Organizer, StartupDrinks Canada
Tara Hunt – CEO, Buyosphere

What’s Going on in the Montreal Startup Community

Devteach
Where: Hotel InterContonental, 360 Saint Antoine Ouest
When: Monday, May 30 – June 3

MobileTeach by DevTeach is the biggest Mobile Conference in Canada. The event will be part of their annual DevTeach conference in Montreal (May 30th to June 3rd) and will feature the best experts in the business. Among the topics covered will be Windows Phone 7 (WP7), iPhone and iPad development with iOS, Android native OS and Mono Cross platform development.

Hacks and Hackers Launch
Where: Notman House, 51 Sherbrooke West
When: Tuesday, May 31, 2011, 6pm

The name of this group just tickles me pink. This inaugural meeting seeks to bring those who use technology to find and tell stories and those who are actively making it into the same room. They want to help build the future of media. If you find it, will you let MySpace know?

Montreal Tech Community Summer Party
Where: Sofa Bar, 451, rue Rachel East
When: Friday, June 3, 2011, 10PM – until late

It’s more than a summer party. It’s an event to support women entrepreneurs in this city through www.compagnie-f.org. There will be DJs and I hear dancing may break out so dress to impress. Since it’s a fundraiser, there’s a modest $10 cover charge, which goes up to $15 if you buy them at the door. It’s summer. Take a load off your feet.

Top Upcoming Events

July 9-10 – WordCamp Montreal is a conference about the world’s most popular blogging software WordPress. Developers, designers and users will come together for talks and workshops related to WordPress and to publishing on the web, and to network.

July 13-15 – International Startup Festival is scheduled for the height of summer. Keep your schedule clear as it promises to be a blast of startup fun and knowledge sharing. If you’re not from Montreal and receiving this email, this event is not to be missed. Tickets are on sale now!
