————————————————————————————————————–

Welcome back to StartupDigest Mobile, the members-only guide to what you need to read in the mobile technology industry every week.

Happy Friday!

We kick off the digest this week with a piece from Keith Teare, entrepreneur, investor and co-founder of TechCrunch. His view is that mobile will change the entire software ecosystem over the next 5 years and that this transformation will completely debunk all notions of a bubble. This is followed by stats from Millenial Media that show Android gobbling up market share amongst smartphone players. GigaOM came out with an interesting piece that puts the past 10 years of mobile growth into perspective, and also provides a similar optimistic forecast for the next 10 years. Lastly, we round out the week with an article that highlights just how important smartphones are to carriers – $100 to Verizon at least. Hope you all enjoy the long weekend.

What You Need to Read This Week

Smart Mobile and the Thin Cloud
By Keith Teare, TechCrunch

A great piece from Keith Teare who claims that software is increasingly becoming mobile and will start to take share of the web 1.0 and web 2.0 era companies. Anybody building anything in 2011 should be thinking “mobile first” and he claims that Apple’s iPhone architecture is best suited to this emerging human experience.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Good morning NYC Startups… and Good bye!

In the last year and a half, I’ve watched the NYC StartupDigest community grow from just a handful of friends to almost 10,000 members. But as Art.sy has started to take off, it has become increasingly difficult to give the digest the attention it deserves.

So the reins are officially passing to Frank Denbow, Satjot Sawhney, and Julia Levy, who will take the NYC StartupDigest to all new heights. Getting to contribute to and be a part of the NYC tech culture has been a wonderful experience that I couldn’t be more grateful for. Thank you for being a part of it too, and for all the feedback and kind words you’ve shared with us.

And finally, if you are a mathematician, software engineer, designer, art historian, or some combination thereof, I would love to talk with you about Art.sy. Interested? Just hit ‘reply’ to this email — it’s the last one you’ll be getting from me :).

For newcomers: The NYC StartupDigest is an events list, created by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, that is laser-focused on the needs of startups in NYC. Please send feedback to frank.denbow@thestartupdigest.com.
